Dentures & Removable Prosthetics Mississauga
Dentures are removable appliances that can replace missing teeth and help restore your smile.
There are two types of dentures – complete and partial. Complete dentures are typically recommended for patients who are missing all of their teeth, while partial dentures are used to replace certain missing teeth. Partial dentures play an important role in preventing other teeth from shifting position in the mouth.
Complete denture can be either conventional or immediate. A conventional type is made and placed in your mouth after the remaining teeth are removed and tissues have healed, which may take 4 to 6 weeks.
Unlike conventional dentures, immediate dentures are made in advance and can be positioned as soon as the teeth are removed. As a result, you do not have to be without teeth during the healing period. Once the tissues shrink during the healing period, they require more adjustments to fit properly.
They’re made of very durable materials and can last for many years. Nonetheless, dentures may have to be remade, repaired, or readjusted due to regular wear.

Procedure
Inserting dentures requires several appointments carried over a number of weeks. Highly accurate impressions (mold) of your gums will be taken and used as a model to fabricate your dentures to fit the contours of your mouth exactly. Several “try-on” appointments will fine tune color, shape and custom-fit. At the final appointment, your dentist will insert and position the completed denture. We will ensure that your custom-made dentures fit comfortably and look natural as possible.
You may find that saliva flow temporarily increases. You may also experience some soreness and possible difficulty with speech and chewing. As your mouth becomes accustomed to the dentures, these problems should go away.
Proper cleaning, consistent dental appointments and good proper hygiene is essential for the longevity of your dentures.
