Crowns (Caps)

  • A crown (or cap) is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth. Your dentists will most likely recommend a crown to restore full function back into the tooth.
  • Compared to different types of crowns, porcelain (tooth colored crown) are the most widely used today. Crowns are very durable and can last a lifetime. However, like most dental restorations, they may need to be replaced at some point. Thankfully with the advancement of porcelain materials; dental crowns are made to match the shape, color and durability of your teeth, making your smile bright and natural.

Post And Core Crowns (Caps)

  • During Root Canal Treatment (RCT), your dentist will reinforce the tooth before installing the crown. As the nerve and blood vessels are removed from the channel in the middle of each root, the tooth will gradually become weaker over time. Fracture and the risks of losing teeth is greater.
  • The post and core procedure can be done in two appointments. The dentist will remove any decayed and damaged tooth material, as well as existing restoration that are part of the bare portion of the tooth. The dentist will carefully make a channel or post hole (10mm deep) in the center of the tooth, by removing some of the RCT sealer. Next, an impression of the post hole and the remaining tooth structure will be taken, and sent to the lab. After this is accomplished, a temporary crown is placed on top for preparation. In 7-10 days, the patient will come back to our dental office, and have the custom fabricated post and core attached into place.
  • When the dental crown is more intact, a prefabricated titanium post bonded into the space is enough to provide support. In cases where the tooth has a significant amount of decay, fracture or is heavily restored, a post and core may be a durable and the best option to strengthen the tooth before crown placement.
  • After post and core is completed, preparation is done during the same visit in order to speed up the process.

Fixed Dental Bridges in Mississauga

A fixed bridge is a non-removable dental device that provides a convenient solution for restoring your smile in cases of one or more missing teeth.

Although there are several types of bridges, Porcelain ones are the most popular because they resemble the look and feel of your natural teeth. It is attached to two crowns, which fit over the existing teeth and hold the bridge in place.

Dental bridges are highly durable and can last for many years. However, they may need to be replaced or retightened due to regular wear.

How is a bridge attached?

  • Getting a bridge typically involves two or more visits. Initially, the dentist numbs the tooth to remove decay and prepares the two anchoring teeth by removing some enamel to fit crowns. Then, the exact impression of your teeth is taken and sent to a dental lab. Next, a temporary bridge is placed on the tooth and worn for a few weeks until your next appointment.
  • At the second visit, the temporary bridge is removed and the tooth is cleaned. The new permanent bridge is then fitted, checked, and adjusted to ensure it fits properly. After the procedure, it is crucial to maintain ideal oral hygiene, particularly by flossing under the bridge.

Why do I need a fixed bridge?

  • Restore your smile by filling the gap left by missing teeth.
  • Support the facial tissues.
  • Restore the ability to chew and speak naturally.
  • Prevent the remaining teeth from shifting.
  • Remain in place as you eat, speak and sleep – just like natural teeth.
